MQ appointed Artistic Directors of Mendelssohn on Mull
The quartet is delighted to be taking up the position of Artistic Directors at Mendelssohn on Mull, an annual residency on the Isle of Mull, in which the quartet invites eight young artists on the brink of a professional career for an immersive week of rehearsals and performances in an inspiring setting. Mendelssohn on Mull is run by Sound Waves SCIO, and is now in its 37th year, with previous directors including the likes of Leonard Friedman, the Chilingirian and Doric string quartets.
In their first year, the Maxwell Quartet performed with eight UK-based Conservatoire students to critical acclaim. The New Yorker wrote: “One thing that sets the Maxwells apart - and aligns them with the lost-in-time aura of Mull - is their habit of incorporating Scottish reels, jigs, and laments into their programs… The Maxwells’ account was sensationally persuasive… Mendelssohn on Mull veterans were buzzing over what the quartet had achieved”
